The Akwa Ibom State Chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected the decision of a faction of the party to impose the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, as the party leader in the state.

The party has however commended the national secretary of the APC caretaker committee, Sen John James Akpanudoedehe for showing excellence in leadership at the national level.

These were some of the resolutions adopted in an Eight Point Communique at her Second Stakeholders’ Meeting at SheerGrace Arena, Uyo on Sunday, April 11, to review the state of affairs of the party in the first quarter of the year and to also assess the party’s achievements and challenges in the state.
They “declared as a nullity the unilateral proclamation and announcement of Sen. Godswill Akpabio as the State Party Leader of APC in gross violation of the Party’s Constitution in the unauthorised and illegal Stakeholders meeting of Sunday, March 28, 2021.”

According to the communique, ” the stakeholders endorse the decision of the State Executive Committee (SEC) to have rejected Senator Godswill Akpabio as leader of the party in Akwa Ibom State.”
“It applauded the contributions of our beloved son and National Secretary of the Party, Pstr. Sen. John James Akpanudoedehe (Ph.D) for holding forth and showing excellence in Party administration, nationally.”
The Party voted in support of the State Chairman as the Chairman of the State Caucus and Party Leader in the State until further notice.

The meeting which was well attended, had Stakeholders collectively address and unanimously resolved to pass a vote of confidence on President Muhammadu Buhari for tackling insecurity, fighting corruption and restoring the nation’s economy.

“That the Party thank and appreciate the APC National Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) led by His Excellency, the Governor of Yobe State, Alhaji Mai Mala Buni for the purposeful direction given to the party.”

“That the Party hereby reminds every member and the general public that the State Chairman (or Caretaker Chairman as applicable here) is the Chairman of the State Caucus as provided for in Article 12.9 Sub (i) of the party Constitution (October 2014 As Amended) and remains the Party Leader in the State until further notice.
The eight point communique also urged every Stakeholder in the State, especially those in appointive positions to continue to support the party for the smooth running of party in the State.
