24-Year-Old Man Arrested for Allegedly Stealing Cables at TCN 330kV Switchyard

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Benin Sub-Region, has arrested a 24-year-old man suspected of vandalising its facilities after he was allegedly caught removing cables and wires from a marshalling kiosk at its 330kV switchyard.
The suspect, identified as Wisdom Amaunam, a native of Erediauwa Community, was apprehended at about 10am on Thursday, October 22, 2026, by a TCN security officer during a routine patrol.

In a statement shared on X, TCN disclosed that the security operative caught Amaunam while he was allegedly tampering with the marshalling kiosk and removing electrical cables and wires.
He was subsequently handed over to the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) Unit of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for further investigation.

The company said the suspect remains in custody pending the conclusion of investigations and possible arraignment.

TCN commended its security personnel and the NSCDC for their vigilance and cooperation in protecting critical power infrastructure.
Reaffirming its stance against vandalism, the company declared its zero-tolerance policy towards trespassing, sabotage and attacks on transmission facilities.

It also urged host communities and members of the public to report suspicious movements around transmission installations to security agencies or the nearest TCN office.
The company warned that vandalism of electricity infrastructure could disrupt power supply and undermine national development.
