COAS Seeks Stronger Nigeria-rwanda Defence Ties Through Diplomatic Collaboration
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has called for stronger collaboration between Nigeria’s diplomatic mission and the Nigerian Army to advance bilateral defence relations and enhance security cooperation with African partners.
Shaibu made this known during a courtesy visit to Nigeria’s Acting High Commissioner to the Republic of Rwanda, Ambassador Ibrahim Zanna, in Kigali, during his official working visit to Rwanda at the invitation of the Chief of Staff of the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF), Major General Vincent Nyakarundi.
The engagement underscored the importance of diplomatic support in strengthening military partnerships, facilitating professional exchanges and advancing shared security objectives between Nigeria and Rwanda.
It also provided an opportunity to reinforce coordination between Nigeria’s diplomatic and military institutions in support of bilateral engagements and broader regional security initiatives.

The COAS’s visit further highlighted the need for a coordinated, whole-of-government approach to protecting Nigeria’s national interests abroad and promoting effective defence diplomacy.
Through enhanced collaboration between diplomatic and military institutions, Nigeria aims to consolidate existing partnerships, explore new opportunities for military cooperation and contribute to collective efforts towards peace, stability and security across Africa.
