Customs, JAMB Explore Partnership to Strengthen Institutional Operations

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) have commenced discussions on areas of mutual cooperation aimed at strengthening their operations and improving institutional efficiency.

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, received the JAMB Registrar, Professor Segun Aina, and his delegation on Friday, October 16, 2026, at the NCS Operational Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja.

During the visit, Adeniyi commended JAMB for its remarkable transformation over the years, particularly its adoption of technology, timely release of examination results and improved placement of candidates into tertiary institutions.

He described the Board’s progress as commendable, noting that the integration of technology had enhanced its operational efficiency and strengthened its capacity to deliver services.

“The improvement JAMB has recorded over the years, particularly through the integration of technology into its operations, is commendable. The Board has continued to evolve, making its processes more efficient and improving the placement of candidates into tertiary institutions,” Adeniyi said.

The Customs boss also expressed confidence in the new Registrar’s ability to sustain the Board’s achievements, urging members of the management team to provide the necessary support for his leadership.

Addressing JAMB’s offer to provide access to its electronic facilities, Adeniyi welcomed the proposal, explaining that Customs officers deployed across the country sometimes need to gather at designated centres for examinations and other official exercises.

He noted that access to the facilities would provide the Service with additional options for organising such activities whenever necessary.

On JAMB’s request for operational vehicles, the Comptroller-General acknowledged the importance of mobility in carrying out the Board’s nationwide responsibilities. He, however, stated that the Service would explore possible avenues for assistance, subject to available resources and the applicable framework.

Earlier, Aina said the visit was intended to establish a professional relationship between the two organisations and identify areas where they could support each other’s operations.

“We want to formally come and introduce ourselves. We recognise the important work the Nigeria Customs Service is doing and are aware of the operations you carry out,” the Registrar said.

He disclosed that JAMB serves approximately five million people annually, operates Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across Nigeria and conducts examinations in more than 15 countries.

According to him, the Board also provides electronic services to government agencies and professional bodies, demonstrating its capacity to support other institutions through technology.

Aina further emphasised the importance of operational vehicles in enabling JAMB officials to reach communities, including local government areas, to verify candidates and ensure compliance with examination standards.

The meeting ended with both organisations expressing their commitment to exploring practical areas of collaboration, sharing resources and addressing institutional needs to enhance service delivery.
