COAS Inspects Tinubu Barracks Phase II, Tasks Contractors On Quality, Timely Delivery
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has expressed satisfaction with the progress of construction at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks Phase II, following an unscheduled inspection of the project on Friday, October 16, 2026.
The inspection was aimed at assessing the pace of construction, ensuring compliance with approved specifications and verifying the quality of work being executed.
The project forms part of the Nigerian Army’s efforts to address accommodation challenges facing personnel and their families, in line with Lieutenant General Shaibu’s Soldier First philosophy and commitment to improved troop welfare.
During the inspection, the Army Chief examined residential accommodation blocks, internal road networks, water reticulation systems and other essential facilities designed to provide a comfortable and conducive living environment for military personnel.
He also received briefings from project engineers and consultants on the level of progress achieved, challenges encountered during implementation and the projected completion timelines.
Impressed by the progress recorded, Lieutenant General Shaibu charged the contractors to sustain the pace of work while adhering strictly to approved construction standards and specifications.
He emphasised that the project must be completed within the stipulated timeframe without compromising quality, adding that military infrastructure must provide lasting value and adequately meet the welfare needs of personnel and their families.
The COAS described the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks, named in honour of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, as a significant intervention in the Nigerian Army’s drive to bridge accommodation gaps, improve living conditions and enhance troop morale.
He reaffirmed that the provision of modern accommodation and essential welfare facilities remains a critical component of his vision to build a professional, resilient, highly motivated and combat-ready Nigerian Army.
Lieutenant General Shaibu further pledged to sustain the monitoring of infrastructure projects across Army formations and barracks, noting that regular and unscheduled inspections would remain an important mechanism for ensuring quality delivery, transparency, accountability and value for money.
