Dozens Feared Abducted As Bandits Attack Travellers, Destroy Vehicles In Zamfara

Suspected bandits have reportedly attacked commuters along the Magami–Dansadau–Gusau road in Zamfara State, damaging vehicles, destroying travellers’ belongings and abducting several people.
The armed men reportedly blocked the highway, which connects communities in Maru and Gusau Local Government Areas, disrupting movement and raising fresh concerns about the safety of motorists and passengers.
According to sources, the attackers vandalised vehicles and destroyed items belonging to travellers during the incident, while several passengers were feared to have been taken away.
“ALERT: Bandit attacked commuters along the Magami-Dansadau-Gusau road in Maru and Gusau LGAs, Zamfara State. MANY people are feared abducted and vehicles damaged. Driving this road needs extra caution NOW,” one source told SaharaReporters.
Another account of the incident indicated that armed men had again blocked the Magami–Dansadau road, leaving vehicles damaged and travellers’ belongings destroyed.
The latest attack has heightened fears among residents, commercial drivers and other road users who depend on the route for transportation and business activities.
The incident also comes amid renewed threats by bandits to attack vehicles travelling along the Dansadau–Gusau road.
On Wednesday, reports emerged that the armed groups had threatened to burn approximately 250 vehicles using the route, triggering concerns among motorists and traders who regularly travel through the area.
The reported threat has further raised questions about the ability of security agencies to protect commuters along the highway, which has witnessed repeated incidents of kidnapping, violence and destruction of property.
In May 2026, suspected bandits reportedly ambushed travellers along the Magami–Dansadau road, killing several people and abducting others, according to reports at the time.
The recurring attacks have highlighted the persistent security challenges facing communities in the area and the dangers confronting people travelling between rural settlements and Gusau, the Zamfara State capital.
Efforts to obtain comments from the spokesperson for the Zamfara State Police Command, DSP Yazid Abubakar, regarding the latest incident and the reported abductions were unsuccessful, as he had not responded to enquiries at the time of filing this report.
Travellers have been advised to exercise extreme caution when using the affected route amid growing concerns over the deteriorating security situation.
