Private Jet Loses Door Mid-Air, Makes Emergency Landing in Abuja

A private jet operated by Triton Aviation reportedly lost a door mid-flight on Thursday, forcing the crew to declare an emergency shortly after departing Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
The aircraft, identified as a CL60 with registration number T7-SEI and flight identification DWC052, was travelling to Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos when the incident occurred at approximately 4:20 p.m.
According to an incident report, the crew alerted air traffic control that a door had opened during the flight. Following the report, the approach radar controller instructed the aircraft to return to Abuja, where it subsequently made an emergency landing.
Social media influencer Chuks Eric, known as @ChuksEricE on X, shared a video showing the aircraft and the detached door, which was reportedly discovered on a farm after falling from the jet.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about aviation safety, particularly the maintenance and operational standards of private charter aircraft in Nigeria.
A door detaching during flight can pose significant safety risks, including cabin decompression and potential structural complications, depending on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) had not issued official statements regarding the incident.
The condition of the passengers and crew on board also remained unclear, as reports of any possible injuries had yet to be independently verified.
Aviation authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the cause of the door detachment and whether the aircraft underwent the required safety checks before take-off.
