The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has assured residents of Igbokoda, Ondo State, that their environmental concerns following an aircraft accident will be addressed in collaboration with relevant authorities.

The assurance follows reports of an offensive odour in the community and fears of possible environmental contamination arising from the accident.

In a press release, the NAF acknowledged the concerns raised by residents, noting that the incident had caused discomfort, anxiety and uncertainty among members of the affected community.

The Air Force stated that it was taking the complaints seriously and remained committed to protecting the health and safety of the residents.

According to the NAF, search and recovery operations are still ongoing, with the service working alongside relevant partner agencies to ensure the safe and orderly recovery of the aircraft wreckage.

It added that, upon completion of the recovery operation, it would engage appropriate environmental and public health authorities, alongside other relevant agencies, to assess the situation and determine necessary measures to address any identified environmental concerns.

The NAF reiterated its commitment to constructive engagement with the affected community and other stakeholders to safeguard public health, safety and environmental wellbeing.
