The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered an illegal factory allegedly involved in the production and repackaging of fake and expired alcoholic and energy drinks in Lagos State.
The factory was discovered at Zamfara Plaza, inside the BBA Trade Fair Complex, where two suspects were arrested during an enforcement operation.
According to the agency, the suspects were allegedly caught altering expiry dates and repackaging expired energy drinks, wines, Bullet drinks and various brands of whisky for sale to unsuspecting members of the public.
NAFDAC said the operation forms part of its ongoing efforts to rid the Nigerian market of counterfeit, adulterated and expired products that pose risks to public health.
The agency confirmed that all suspected fake and expired products recovered from the facility had been confiscated.
It added that the arrested suspects would be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
