Nigerian Navy Uncovers 98,000 Litres of Suspected Stolen Crude Oil in Rivers
The Nigerian Navy has uncovered three suspected illegal refining sites containing approximately 98,000 litres of petroleum products in Okarki community, Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The discovery was made on October 10, 2026, during an operation conducted by Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) PATHFINDER under Operation DELTA SENTINEL.
According to the Navy, the operation led to the recovery of about 65,000 litres of suspected stolen crude oil and 33,000 litres of suspected illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).
The petroleum products were stored in approximately 12 dugout pits and containers across the three locations.
However, no arrests were made as the suspected operators reportedly fled the sites before the naval personnel arrived.
The Navy said the discovered sites and associated petroleum products were handled in line with established procedures.
The operation underscores the continued efforts of the Nigerian Navy to combat crude oil theft, illegal refining and the unlawful storage of petroleum products in the Niger Delta.
The Navy also reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining intelligence-led patrols and operations to dismantle illegal refining facilities, disrupt the movement of suspected stolen petroleum products and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice in accordance with the law.
