“I Suspend You” — Cardinal Onaiyekan Reveals Why Governor Alia Remains Suspended from Catholic Ministry

    Cardinal Onaiyekan

Former Archbishop of Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, has explained why Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, remains suspended from public ministry in the Catholic Church.
Speaking in a recent interview, Onaiyekan said the procedures and requirements of the Catholic Church were not followed before Alia proceeded with his political ambition.
According to the Cardinal, Alia’s bishop had advised him against the move and warned that he would face suspension if he went ahead.
“I have nothing against Father Alia, but you’re asking a question. The law of our church has not been followed. He did not meet those criteria, and his bishop told him no. He decided he would go, and his bishop said, okay, if you go, I SUSPEND YOU,” Onaiyekan said.
The Cardinal stressed that the issue was not personal but concerned adherence to the rules and regulations governing the Catholic Church.
He maintained that Governor Alia remains suspended from public ministry.
