Lakurawa Terrorists Flee After Failed Attack on Military Base in Kebbi, Abandon Weapons, 17 Motorcycles
Troops conducting counter-terrorism operations under Sector 2, Joint Task Force, North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have thwarted an attempted attack by the Lakurawa Terrorist Group on the Forward Operating Base, Maiyama, in Kebbi State.
The terrorists attacked the base in the early hours of October 7, 2026, reportedly mobilising in large numbers on more than 100 motorcycles.
Armed with assorted weapons, including General Purpose Machine Guns and Rocket-Propelled Grenades, the terrorists attempted to overrun the military position but were met with a strong response from the troops.
The sustained military response forced the attackers to retreat from the area. Several of the terrorists’ weapons, equipment and logistics were abandoned as they fled.
Troops subsequently launched exploitation and pursuit operations around the area, during which they recovered 17 motorcycles, a PKT machine gun, an AK-47 rifle, assorted ammunition and a communication device.
The recoveries have dealt a significant blow to the terrorist group’s operational capacity in the area.
Meanwhile, troops have maintained dominance of the general area and intensified patrols, clearance and pursuit operations to locate and neutralise members of the group who fled the scene.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA said the Theatre Command remains committed to safeguarding communities and preventing terrorists from establishing freedom of action within the Joint Operations Area.
