Customs CG Adeniyi Pledges Support for Nigeria’s $1tn Economy Target
The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, has pledged the Nigeria Customs Service’s full support for the Federal Government’s ambition to grow Nigeria’s economy to $1 trillion.
Adeniyi made the commitment on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, while delivering a keynote address at the New Nigeria Festival held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Conference Hall in Abuja.
The Customs boss said the $1 trillion economic target was achievable if government’s plans and strategies were effectively implemented and translated into measurable results.
He said the Nigeria Customs Service had moved beyond policy discussions to practical implementation through its ongoing modernisation reforms, including the deployment of B’Odogwu, the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) programme and the Advance Ruling mechanism.
According to him, the initiatives are aimed at facilitating legitimate trade, creating a more predictable business environment and strengthening revenue generation.
“Execution is nothing if it is not concrete. We have to move from ideas to action and ensure that whatever we plan translates into results. That is how we can begin to see the kind of transformation we are talking about,” Adeniyi said.
The CGC noted that achieving the $1 trillion economy could not be the sole responsibility of government agencies, stressing that businesses, institutions and citizens must collectively contribute to the realisation of the target.
He said the Customs Service remained strategically positioned to support Nigeria’s economic transformation through its responsibilities in revenue collection, trade facilitation and border management.
Adeniyi consequently called for a shift from rhetoric to implementation, urging Nigerians and institutions to take ownership of their responsibilities and turn economic plans into concrete and measurable actions.
