Tragedy In Yobe As 9-Year-Old Boy Burπs Stepmother, Brothers To Death
A nine-year-old boy has confessed to setting his family home on fire in Yobe State, resulting in the deaths of his two stepmothers and two younger brothers.
The incident happened in Rugan Badal, Karasuwa Local Government Area, after the boy was reportedly punished by his father for stealing a fowl.
The suspect told Channels Television that he bought ₦50 worth of matches and deliberately set the house on fire while the victims were sleeping, saying he wanted to get revenge on his father.
He claimed he later shouted for help as neighbours arrived to put out the fire, but kept his involvement secret until he confessed three days later.
The Yobe State Police Command subsequently arrested him and paraded him alongside his father, Abubakar Idi, in Damaturu.
ASP Yusuf Adamu-Ali, the command’s spokesperson, said although the suspect is a minor, the seriousness of the alleged offence requires legal action.
Police said investigations are continuing.
