FG Confirms U.S.-Backed Airstrikes On Terrorist Camps In Nigeria
The Federal Government has confirmed that recent airstrikes targeting terrorist camps in Nigeria’s North-West were carried out with intelligence support from the United States, amid growing public debate over foreign involvement in the country’s counterterrorism efforts.
In a press statement issued on Friday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government said the operations were conducted through structured intelligence collaboration and security cooperation with international partners, including the U.S., to address what it described as persistent threats posed by terrorism and violent extremism.
According to the ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the intelligence partnership enabled “precision hits” on identified terrorist targets during air operations in the region. He noted that the strikes formed part of ongoing efforts to degrade the operational capacity of armed groups responsible for violence and insecurity in the North-West.
The ministry emphasized that Nigeria’s cooperation with the United States and other partners is consistent with established international practices and governed by bilateral agreements. It added that such engagements focus on intelligence sharing, strategic coordination, and technical support, all carried out in line with international law and with full respect for Nigeria’s sovereignty.
The government reiterated its commitment to safeguarding national security while maintaining transparency in its international security partnerships, assuring citizens that all counterterrorism operations remain under Nigerian authority.
