Man Refuses To S|eep With Wife Over Dirtiπess
A magistrate court has dissolved a 13-year marriage after a man revealed he had avoided physical intimacy with his wife for seven years, citing her poor hygiene as the reason.
Patrick Kansunwa, a 59-year-old driver from Lusaka’s Garden compound, told the court in Matero, Zambia, that his wife, Loveness Kakapizye, 49, neglected personal hygiene to the point that he lost all physical attraction to her.
“She is very dirty, so I started losing interest in her. My body could not be moved even if I saw her naked after a long time because I would always find her smelling bad. She even reached the extent of releasing stool in her own clothes,” Kansunwa said during the hearing.
Kansunwa explained that the issues began two years into their marriage when Kakapizye’s drinking habits intensified. According to him, her drinking often led to incidents of public embarrassment, such as soiling herself while intoxicated.
In her defence, Kakapizye accused her husband of similar behaviour, stating that Kansunwa also drank excessively and left fecal stains in his clothing when drunk.
“When we got married, he beat me three days after our kitchen party for buying three new pants. He is too jealous of me. He went on and impregnated another woman when I am his fourth wife already. He even squandered his NAPSA partial withdrawal alone,” Kakapizye countered.
She also criticized Kansunwa for failing to fulfill his marital duties, claiming he had not been intimate with her since 2017.
Magistrate Harriet Mulenga, presiding over the case, cited gender-based violence and the lack of conjugal rights as key factors in the marriage breakdown.
“This marriage was competing in drinking alcohol. If the other one poops on herself, the other one would attempt to stab the partner, and you were endangering your lives without considering your children,” Magistrate Mulenga said.
The court granted the divorce and ordered Kansunwa to compensate Kakapizye with K15,000.
