SENSITIZATION TOUR: DG NAFIC Urges Troops To Leverage Welfare Schemes, Commends Ophk Operations

The Director General (DG), Nigerian Army Finance Incorporation (NAFIC), Major General Julius Osifo, has urged troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) to take full advantage of existing Nigerian Army welfare and financial schemes designed to enhance their well-being and operational effectiveness.

Major General Osifo made the call on Monday, 23 March 2026, during a sensitisation visit to troops at the Headquarters Theatre Command, Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), Maimalari Military Cantonment, Maiduguri.

He explained that NAFIC was responsible for managing key welfare initiatives, including the Nigerian Army Benevolent Fund, Group Life Assurance Scheme, and other support packages aimed at assisting personnel in cases of injury, permanent disability, or death in service.

The DG noted that the sensitisation programme covered critical areas such as the Nigerian Army Personnel Loan Scheme, the Chief of Army Staff Personnel Loan Programme, activities of the Directorate of Non-Public Funds (DNPF), and the establishment of the Nigerian Army Microfinance Bank (NAMFB). He emphasised that the initiative was designed to educate troops on their entitlements, responsibilities, and the benefits available to them.

According to him, improved awareness of these schemes would further boost troops’ morale and fighting spirit, ultimately enhancing their effectiveness in ongoing operations.

Major General Osifo also commended the Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force North East OPHK, Major General Abdusalam Abubakar, for his leadership and operational successes in the theatre. He noted that the sustained offensive operations have significantly degraded terrorist capabilities, despite a few isolated setbacks, and have restored public confidence in the Armed Forces.

In his remarks, the Theatre Commander appreciated the DG NAFIC for the timely visit, noting that it came at a critical phase of ongoing dry season operations. He disclosed that troops have continued to record successes, neutralising about 300 terrorists through well-coordinated operations and superior firepower.

Maj Gen Abubakar added that increased awareness of welfare packages has contributed significantly to boosting troop morale, as personnel are reassured of adequate support in times of need. He affirmed that the welfare scheme was inline with the Chief Of Army Staff, Lt Gen W Shaibu NAM concept of “Soldier First Culture” which is the focus of his welfare and administrative drive for the Nigerian Army.

The visit underscores NAFIC’s commitment to promoting professionalism, strengthening troops’ welfare awareness, and supporting sustained operational success in the fight against insurgency in the North East region.

Highlights of the visit included the inspection of a quarter guard, an interactive session with officers, signing of the visitors’ book, presentation of souvenirs, and a group photograph.
