Many Causalities As Soldier, Police Engage In Deadly Fight
The Nasarawa State Police Command has confirmed the death of two individuals in the Agyaragu community, Obi Local Government Area, following a violent altercation between a police special constabulary officer and an army personnel.
During a press briefing in Lafia on Sunday, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ramhan Nansel, reported that the incident began as a confrontation between the soldier and the police special constable at the Agyaragu market. The altercation escalated, leading to both men stabbing each other.
“They were taken to the hospital, but unfortunately, the soldier succumbed to his injuries during treatment,” Nansel stated.
He added that the soldier’s death triggered a response from youths in his neighborhood, who reportedly mobilized and attacked a nearby police station. “Police officers on duty managed to repel the assault, but in the ensuing commotion, another person was confirmed dead. Two others are currently receiving medical care,” he said.
Nansel noted that Commissioner of Police Umar Nadadahad visited the station to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the situation. He assured the public that peace had been restored in the area and that an investigation would be conducted to determine the underlying factors behind the incident
