Libya holds Super Eagles hostage
Barely 48 hours before day 4 of the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier, Nigeria’s Super Eagles are currently being held hostage in Libya.
The Mediterranean Knights are scheduled to host the Super Eagles in the second leg slated for Benina Stadium on Tuesday.
The arrangement Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) had with the Libya Football Federation was to have the Super Eagles landed in Benghazi which is a few minutes drive to Benina Stadium.
But the flight of Nigeria was diverted to Abraq airport which is almost 2-hour drive to Benghazi. In a short video shared by the NFF, Super Eagles players were seen stranded at the airport waiting for the immigration to pass them into them country.
