Three Thieves Nabbed While Attempting To Sell Stolen Tricycle
Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested three male suspects in connection with the theft of a commercial tricycle in the state, recovering the stolen and vandalised vehicle during the operation. The suspects — Chuka Nwanze (23), Arinze Anyansi (24) and Miracle Anyadiegwu (24) —were arrested on January 20, 2026, at about 5pm by police officers attached to the Trans-Ekulu Division, with support from members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group.
According to the Enugu State Police Command in a statement on Friday signed by the Command’s spokesperson SP Daniel Ndukwe, the suspects were apprehended at the Ugbodogwu area of Trans-Ekulu while attempting to sell a stolen Bajaj tricycle.
“Acting on credible information, police operatives arrested three male suspects who were seeking a buyer for a stolen Bajaj tricycle,” the statement noted. The recovered tricycle, described as yellow-and-black in colour, bears Bauchi State registration number NNG 445 WZ. During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to stealing the tricycle from where it was parked in the Obiagu area of Enugu on the night of January 19, 2026.
“They admitted that they stole the Bajaj tricycle during the night and vandalised it,” the police said. “They also confessed to having sold the three tyres of the tricycle and were in the process of selling the remaining parts before they were apprehended.”
The police said investigations were ongoing to track down other members of the suspected tricycle theft syndicate and recover additional stolen items. “Discreet investigations are ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate and recover further exhibits,” the statement added. The suspects are expected to be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has advised vehicle owners to take proactive steps to secure their vehicles. “The Commissioner of Police has once again urged vehicle owners to remain vigilant and install basic security features on their vehicles,” the statement said, noting that such measures would “deter theft and aid in the easy identification and recovery of stolen vehicles.”
