Dozens Killed As Nigerian Troops Clashes With Boko Haram
The Nigerian military has neutralised no fewer than 40 members of terrorists and destroyed 50 illegal refining sites in two weeks – between 23 March and 6 April 2023.
This was contained in a press release on Thursday by the Directorate of Defence Media Operations, Musa Dandadami, revealing that the armed force discovered and destroyed the 50 illegal refineries at the South-South region of the country.
He added that 21 terrorists in the Northeast, 24 in the Northwest and three in the Southeast were neutralised during the two weeks period.
The military said the summary of the armed activities within the two weeks period read, “ In the Northeast region, they recovered 14 AK-47 rifles, 2 NSVT guns, 1 NSVT gun barrel, 1 QJC barrel, 3 RPG bombs, 1 Anti-Riot gun, 3 Pump action guns, 2 Hand grenades, 3 PKT MG, 3 Gun Trucks, 188 Rounds of 7.62 x 54mm ammunition, 21 PLUS 24 PLUS 3, 142 Rounds of 12.7x108mm ammunitions, 110 Rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 27 Cartridges, 18 dane guns 17 AK-47 magazines and IED wires, three pairs of Boko Haram uniforms, and sum Of N2,321,015.00.
The military said its troops also rescued 54 terrorist escapees and arrested 11 suspected terrorists in the region, adding 974 Boko Haram members and their families surrendered.
In the North-central region, the troops recovered 1 Pistol, 1 Pistol round, 4 ATM cards, machetes, mobile phones, and a large quantity of cannabis, claiming that they also rescued 21 kidnapped civilians in the region.
They also claimed to have arrested 3 suspected criminals, 1 suspected terrorist, nine suspected kidnappers and 1 notorious armed robber.
In the North-West region, the army said they recovered 10 AK-47 rifles, 9 AX4 magazines, I4 dane guns, 28 Rounds of 7.62 mm special, 6 Motorcycles and 76 rustled cattle.
They also arrested 19 suspected criminals and rescued 43 Kidnapped victims.
In the South-South region, the army said they recovered 797,000 Litres of crude oil, 276,000 Litres of Automotive Gas oil, 500 litres of dual Purpose Kerosene, 4 Pumping machines, 19 Vehicles, 6 motorcycle, 1 Tricycle, 8 weapons, 18 Variety of ammunition, 1 Outboard engine, 2 Generators, and 1 Speed boat.
They also discovered and destroyed 22 Wooden boats, 237 Storage tanks, 204 Ovens, 30 Dugout pits and arrested 26 suspected criminals.
“Within the weeks in focus oil thieves were denied a total of N407,542,860 in the South South Region,” the army said.
Whereas in the Southeast region, the troops recovered 23 Pump action guns, 11 Cartridges, 13 Machetes, 3 Knives, 161 Permanent Voters Cards, 13 Pairs of boots, 6 Handcuffs, 5 AK47 rifles, 4 Dane guns, 2 Rounds of 9mm ammunition, 180 Rounds of7.62mm special ammunition, 4 Local pistols, 7 Live cartridges, 1 Double barrel gun, 3 cutlasses, 1 Vehicle, 6 Motorcycle, 34 pairs of IPOB and ESN uniforms.
The army also arrested 12 suspected terrorists and rescued 21 kidnapped civilians.
