Four Arrested For Robbing Churches, See Names
Men of Nigeria police, Imo State Command have arrested four suspected cultists and armed robbers who specialise in robbing churches and places of worship within Nekede and Ihiagwa area of the state.
The suspects were Justice Anukam, 18; Emezi Chidiebube, 21; Sandy Chisom, 24 and ONWUSIRIBE Chidiuto, 21 years.
They were arrested following series of complaints from different churches, especially St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Nekede that had fallen victim to their activities.
Their victims, according to a statement issued by the spokesman of the state police command, Orlando Ikeokwu, were parish priest of St. Paul’s Church, Rev. Fr. Wence Isidiem; Igwe Ogechi, Chibuzor Anukam, Uwalaka Kizito and Peace Iwegwa, all of whom are members of the church.
Ikeokwu said, “Sequel to multiple cases of armed robbery and cultism activities around Nekede/Ihiagwa Communities and environs, the Commissioner of Police CP Nasiru Mohmammed ordered a coordinated operation in the area.
“Pursuant to that on 23/02/2021, operatives of the Divisional Police Headquarters Nekede/Ihiagwa after a sting operation in the area, arrested Justice Anukan ‘m’, Emezi Chidiebube ‘m’, Sandy Chisom ‘m’ and Onwusiribe Chidiuto ‘m’. They were identified to have robbed worshippers at St. Paul’s Catholic Church Nekede of their valuables on gunpoint”.
Ikeokwu added that at the point of arrest, one locally made pistol; one cut to size single barrel gun, one toy rifle and one toy pistol.
According to him, the suspects confessed to be responsible for the upsurge in criminal activities in the area.
