Information reaching IBOM FOCUS that Top Army Officer Exposes Boko Haram Sponsors And Where They Are
An ex- Commandant of the Defense Intelligence College has revealed the sponsors of militant Islamist group Boko Haram and bandits that have been killing, raping, stealing and kidnapping for ransom.
Prof Kunle Olawunmi, a retired Navy Commodore, mentioned on Wednesday that the sponsors are in Aso Rock, adding that some are incumbent governors and some are in the national assembly.
He made the comments on Channels Television while reacting to Tuesday’s fatal attack at the Nigerian Defense Academy (NDA) which led to the death of three officers.
Prof Olawunmi, a one time Defense Adviser to France, noted that he was in the military intelligence when the issue of Boko Haram started and that some of the suspects arrested had confessed and named their sponsors.
“We arrested those people. It is my organisation that actually conducted interrogation and interviews. And they mentioned names. I mean, I can’t come on air and start mentioning names of people that are presently in government that I know – that are presently in government – that the boys that we arrested mentioned,” he said.

“Some of them are governors now, some of them are in the Senate, some of them are in Aso Rock. Why should a government try to cause this kind of embarrassment and insecurity to the sense of what happened yesterday?”
Speaking on the NDA attack, he said the suspected bandits did not act alone, and that he agreed with the theory of insider collaboration for such an invasion to have happened.
“Absolutely,” he stated when asked if he believed the assailants invaded with the help of an insider. “We do opeartions like this, there’s no way we can succeed without somebody inside. We must compromise somebody inside; either through blackmail or through incentives, maybe we give money or we blackmail the person or we try to indoctrinate that person. We can’t succeed without an inside person. And this attack you saw has insider’s collaboration,” he said.
On how it was easy for the invaders to overrun the NDA, the ex-military intelligence officer said: “I have conducted an attack in Niger [Republic], I have conducted attack in Angola, you see, no matter how fortified an environment is, no matter how foreign it is, if you can achieve the element of surprise, you win.”
He however said there was no point in apportioning blames, adding that “even if after 30minutes of their invasion of the environment it will take a lot to be able to respond to such an attack”.
“I know the NDA very well, I know the security architecture. Even if by that time, 1 am, they want to respond to that, I know the process: the weapons are in the armoury; you need to go and open the armoury and start signing. The bandits are not going to allow that to happen. They will continue to fire and continue to follow up and you cannot respond. Any response, you are going to be caught by bullets,” he said.
“So, it’s not about what happened at 1 am, gentlemen it’s about what has been happening in the past two years, three years – where these people have been having access, unfettered access, to NDA. And they carried out their surveillance and they know the right time to strike.”
The Professor of Intelligence and Global Security Studies said “anybody that wants to investigate this issue should not look at now, they should look at what has happened in the past two years, three years; how porous the place has been, and try to mitigate it”.
