PHOTOS: Hon. Ekpenyong Hails 8th Uruan Legislative Council, Promises Synergy
Hon. Surv. Iniobong Ekpenyong, The Chairman of Uruan Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom state, has congratulated the 8th Uruan Legislative Council for their successful inauguration with the promise to maintain a cordial relationship that will bring a tangible development to every nook and cranny of the Local Government.
Hon Ekpenyong made this known when he addressed the 8th legislative council shortly after been inaugurated by the clerk in Idu.
He thanked Uruan people for their show of love, noting that his administration owes service and rapid development as a payback coin for their support and solidarity during and after the electioneering period.
‘Uruan people elected us to serve them, and we will do just that. Service to our people should be uppermost in our minds and I implore all councilors to think Uruan First, being our campaign theme.
‘I implore the councilors to look inward and bring out people-oriented bills, bills that will help us as a people, and ensure we live together in harmony. For example, during our campaigns, the women complained about the destructions of farmland by cows. The bill came up in the 7th legislative council, I implore you to bring it up again to see how to curb the menace of cow rearers in the local government’.
The Council helmsman thanked Governor Umo Eno for providing an enabling environment for a free, fair, and credible election in Uruan and Akwa Ibom by extension while sympathizing with the governor on the loss of his wife, Mrs. Patience Eno.
‘We went for that election devoid of negative stories, injuries, and the most peaceful election we ever witnessed in Akwa Ibom. I appreciate the role of our Distinguished Senator and political leader; Senator Aniekan Bassey, he has been a father, a mentor, and has showcased leadership with love to Uruan people and I solicit him to continue to do more’, Hon. Ekpenyong added.
He further thanked the political class, peoples Democratic Party, stakeholders, friends, ward leaders, zonal leaders, for the role they have played for his re-election, Iniabasi campaign team; through the Policy and Strategy Committee who gave a template of what Uruan people want that helped in the ward-to-ward campaign of votes.
Earlier, the leader of the 8th Uruan Legislative Council in his acceptance speech congratulated his colleagues for emerging victorious in the just concluded Local Government Election. He thanked Akwa Ibom State Independence Electoral Commission (AKISIEC), for conducting a free and fair local government election in Akwa Ibom that saw the emergence of local government chairmen and councilors, and expressed gratitude to his colleagues for overwhelmingly voting for him as their leader.
He assured of good representation as they would not shy away from their duty of sponsoring motions and bills on the floor of the house being part of their responsibility as legislators, as well as performing oversight functions and putting the Executive Arm of Government under check.
The 8th legislative Houses leadership are; Hon. Sunday Bassey; Leader, Deputy leader; Hon. Effiong Robert, House leader; Hon. Anietie Patrick, Deputy House leader; Hon. Itoro Edet, Chief Whip; Hon. Etiete Okon, Deputy Chief whip; Hon. Ifiok Paul.
Other councilors inaugurated are; Councilor representing North1; Nsidebe Solomon, North2; Etiette Joseph, Central1; Elder Anietie Okon, Central2; Otu Otu, Central3; Ifiok Paul, Central4; Rose Effiong, South1; Blessing Ekong, South2; Sunday Bassey, South3; Joseph Asuquo, South4; Effiong Okon, South5; Itoro Edet, South6; Paul Asuquo, South7; Effiong Akpan.
The well attended ceremony had the wife of the Chairman; Mrs Ndifreke Ekpenyong, others.
