Naira Scarcity, Fears Grips Politicians, Share Meal Tickets To Voters
Some Nigerian politicians have devised creative ways to induce voters during Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections amid Naira notes scarcity.
It was earlier reported that Nigerians had begun casting their votes at various polling units across the country to decide who will be the country’s next president.
Voters will also choose the members of Senate and House of Representatives to represent them in the next four years.
There are 18 presidential candidates contesting to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari when he leaves office on May 29, 2023.
Ibom Focus gathered that agents of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have given out meal tickets to residents in Sokoto State to encourage them to vote for their parties.
“Na me do meal ticket for the two major parties (APC and PDP) yesterday… embedded with some backend technology sef (I designed the meal tickets for the two major parties yesterday, embedded with some backend technology),” a source told SaharaReporters.
“I was told the meal ticket will be shared to voters at the polling unit who will take them to another location to get their packages,” the source added.
A source in Kaduna also revealed how agents of the ruling party shared clothes, and bags of rice as well as transferred money to the electorate to entice them to vote for their parties.
“Voting going on well and the BVAS machines are working effectively, although there is a case of bribery where APC agent gives voters clothes and bag of rice, some even collect their ‘reward’ through transfer,” the source said.
Similarly, a voter was caught on tape by our reporter in Ward 09, Unit 30, Atiba Local Government, Oyo State, saying he was given N2,000 to vote for APC candidates in the election.
