Grammy 2026: NiDCOM Celebrates Nigerian Excellence, Calls for Inclusive National Pride

The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has congratulated three Nigerians of heritage—Shaboozey, Tyler, the Creator, and Cynthia Erivo—on their historic victories at the 2026 Grammy Awards.
In a congratulatory message, Dabiri-Erewa described the achievements of the award-winning artistes as a powerful testament to the creativity, resilience, and global influence of Nigerians and people of Nigerian descent across the diaspora. She noted that their success on one of the world’s most prestigious cultural stages represents not only personal milestones but also moments of collective pride for Nigeria.
According to her, the Grammy wins further underscore Nigeria’s enduring cultural footprint in global music and the creative arts.
While acknowledging the immense contributions and international acclaim of Nigerian-based artistes such as Davido, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, Wizkid, and others, the NiDCOM boss stressed that the names, family histories, and ancestral roots of Shaboozey (born Collins Obinna Chibueze), Tyler, the Creator (born Tyler Gregory Okonma), and Cynthia Erivo (born Cynthia Chinasaokwu Onyedinmanazu Amarachukwu Owezuke Echimino Erivo) remain unmistakably Nigerian.
She said that through their artistry and global platforms, the trio continue to project Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and creative excellence to the world.
Dabiri-Erewa therefore urged the media, cultural institutions, and Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to embrace a broader and more inclusive understanding of national pride—one that celebrates Nigerian excellence wherever it emerges. She added that recognising the achievements of Nigerians in the diaspora strengthens national unity, enhances Nigeria’s global image, and serves as inspiration to younger generations.
