BREAKING: Gunmen Ki||s Lawmaker
A former councillor (lawmaker) in Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State, Mutiu Akinbami, was shot dead by gunmen suspected to be cultists on Friday evening.
Akinbami, also known as Egor, was reportedly shot in the head while riding his motorcycle in the Brewery area of Abeokuta at around 6:00 p.m.
The Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Mr. Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday.
“The Divisional Police Office of Lafenwa received a report at about 6:40 p.m., that Mutiu Akinbami, a man from Olomore Housing Estate, had been shot near the Brewery.
“According to the information, the deceased was riding home on a motorcycle when he was shot from behind by one of the masked occupants of an unregistered white tinted glass Hilux. The divisional police officer quickly mobilised patrol teams to the location and transported the victim to Ijaiye General Hospital, Abeokuta where a doctor confirmed him dead,” Odutola said.
The police spokesperson also noted that Akinbami had worked at the Federal College of Education, Osiele, Abeokuta, and had been listed as a wanted person prior to his death.
“Arrests have been made and further details will be provided as investigation continues,” he added.
