Angry Residents Sack ‘City Boy Movement’ Rally, Cart Away Empowerment Materials For Tinubu Re-Election Bid
Angry residents on Saturday disrupted a rally organised by the City Boy Movement (CBM) in Owerri, the Imo State capital, carting away several empowerment materials that were meant to be distributed during the event held in support of President Bola Tinubu’s proposed re-election bid in 2027.

The rally, which took place in Owerri, the capital of Imo State in southeastern Nigeria, was organised by supporters under the platform of the City Boy Movement, a political group backing the administration of President Tinubu.

However, the gathering descended into chaos after some angry residents reportedly invaded the venue, creating confusion and forcing many participants to flee the scene.

Ibom Focus gathered that the event had attracted a large crowd before the situation turned rowdy, with witnesses saying there was little or no crowd control.

In a video, the venue appeared overcrowded as several attendees were seen running in different directions while others scrambled to grab items that had been brought for distribution as part of an empowerment programme.

Some of the angry residents were seen carrying away tailoring machines, refrigerators and other materials believed to be part of the empowerment items prepared for beneficiaries at the rally.

The entire area became disorderly within minutes, with loud shouting and pushing among the crowd as people struggled to either escape the commotion or secure the items.

Videos circulating online showed dozens of people rushing out of the rally ground while others clutched various items believed to be part of the empowerment packages.

The City Boy Movement is one of several political support groups mobilising grassroots backing for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election, although the president has not officially declared his intention to run for a second term.

As of the time of filing this report, organisers of the rally and Security agencies in Imo State had not issued an official statement on the incident, and it was unclear whether anyone was injured during the disruption.
